The media didn't report any of them. If there were any other shootings during that time elsewhere in the city, none were reported.

The only shooting that was reported by the mainstream media is the one that occurred close enough to the protest that they could somehow make the protest appear violent.

Conservative bias in the mainstream media at it's most obvious.Practical Democrathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07666730683022961466noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7069022544571891078.post-75770928604858758702011-11-14T18:35:29.757-05:002011-11-14T18:35:29.757-05:00I was hoping someone would pick that up - thank yo...I was hoping someone would pick that up - thank you. And the 100 shootings in Oakland - and the thousands more across the country - really is news!

This is exactly my point. The 100 shootings so far this year were NOT reported by the mainstream media. That would make people face the reality of the relationship between the prevalence of guns and gun violence. The mainstream media doesn't report that because of it's conservative bias.

But they did report the 103rd shooting in Oakland. Why is this one any different than the other 102? The mainstream media took saw this as an opportunity to impugn a liberal cause by associating it with this - the 103rd - shooting (even though it was unrelated to Occupy Oakland), but ignored the other 102 shootings. This is conservative bias in the mainstream media.

It's not complicated. The media uses selective reporting to advance its conservative agenda.

You were able to pick up on my selective reporting - why are you unable to pick up on the media's selective reporting? Could it be that you agree with the media and its conservative agenda?Practical Democrathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07666730683022961466noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7069022544571891078.post-91224148072793651782011-11-14T18:35:09.024-05:002011-11-14T18:35:09.024-05:00" So, statistically, this is a 90% decrease i..." So, statistically, this is a 90% decrease in shootings during the time Occupy was present in Oakland."

Logical fallacy, you're assuming the MSM would publish every shooting in Oakland (because somehow that would be news?) There have been quite a few, not that you cared to look even a little bit.Rhepnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7069022544571891078.post-66447061440832605952011-11-14T18:31:28.763-05:002011-11-14T18:31:28.763-05:00I completely agree that the increased police prese...I completely agree that the increased police presence would drive down the number of shootings.

Which tells us that Oakland could reduce the number of shootings year round if it put more police on the streets.

Why doesn't Oakland want to reduce the gun violence in its city? My guess is that its that they don't want to spend the money.

And it is the Republican mantra of smaller government, fewer government workers (like police) that makes cities decide to accept more violence and deaths just to save a few bucks for the richest 1%.

...and that's exactly why Occupy Oakland is on the street protesting!Practical Democrathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07666730683022961466noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7069022544571891078.post-62692445749709005862011-11-14T18:29:15.701-05:002011-11-14T18:29:15.701-05:00And why are shooting down? One possibility could be that they have had a significant INCREASE in police presence in Oakland, due in large part (but not exclusively) to the Occupy Oakland movement.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
